Hope Springs is an upcoming 2012 American romantic comedy directed by David Frankel, and stars Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell. After 30 years of marriage, Kay and Arnold Soames attend intense marriage counseling from Dr. Bernie Fields.
After thirty years of marriage, a middle-aged couple attends an intense, week-long counseling session to work on their relationship.
What I'm most looking forward to here is Meryl Streep's stripped down performance -- no accents, no historical flashbacks, no ABBA songs, just her grinding out matrimonial issues with hubby Tommy Lee Jones and therapist Steve Carell. Knowing that Mike Nichols was originally set to direct with Jeff Bridges playing opposite Streep (and Philip Seymour Hoffman playing their shrink), however, makes me wonder if the overall tone of the script has changed substantially.
