 From Menace II Society through The Book of Eli, Allen and Albert Hughes always worked in tandem as directors and producers, but Allen has gone solo for this presumably hard-boiled genre film written by Brian Tucker, who has no produced screenplays to his credit but has two projects in development -- a remake of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Basic Instinct soundalike called The Arrangement. Looking at Mark Wahlberg's upcoming movies, this one almost gets lost in the shuffle; for Russell Crowe, it's a pivotal role between a potential Oscar nomination for Les Misérables and his take on the character Jor-El in the Superman reboot Man of Steel.

In this dark spin on the fairy tale, siblings Hansel and Gretel are a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.
For a minute there, we wondered if this one would ever get off the ground; to put it in perspective, development on writer-director Tommy Wirkola's follow up to Dead Snow has been in effect since David Fincher was circling Black Hole as his post-Benjamin Button option. Fast forward through all the actresses who've come and gone as Gretel (Diane Kruger, Eva Green, Noomi Rapace) and now we're just nervous that the movie's horror-comedy angle might prevent it from being a crossover hit.

Catching up with Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton), fifteen years after the traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have grown into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminating witches. Over the years, the siblings became expert hunters, famous for their proficiency at tracking and taking down their prey. Although still recovering from their ordeal, their work is relatively easy because for an unknown reason, harmful spells and curses do not work well against them.

The Mayor of Augsburg, Germany recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of an evil sorceress Muriel (Famke Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches' gathering during the upcoming 'Blood Moon' night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Peter Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own.

 This thriller, which has earned comparisons to High Noon (seriously), was almost made with Liam Neeson back when Taken made him to the go-to man for action-movie pitches. If the screenplay is as good as its Black List-status, and if I Saw the Devil director Kim Jee-Woon finds a balance between characterization and style, Sheriff Ray Owens might become another iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger hero.

The Last Stand is an upcoming action drama film written by Andrew Knauer and directed by Kim Ji-woon. The film will be Arnold Schwarzenegger's first leading role since Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003. This will be the first American production for Kim Ji-woon and cinematographer Kim Ji-yong as well as composer Mowg.

Sheriff Ray Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, Gabriel Cortez, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car, a Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1, with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off.

Horror fans have been waiting for Pascal Laugier, director of the depraved Martyrs, to make his follow-up film, though his English-language debut seems more like a cash-grab than something worth the anticipation.
